Safety and Environmental Policy

Elecgas believes that any potential accident can be prevented. Therefore, the highest safety and environmental standards are applied to ensure that all risks to employees, contractors, visitors, the general public and the environment are minimised. Elecgas believes that by doing so, it contributes to an efficient and sustainable business model.

Elecgas believes that, regarding environmental matters, it has legal obligations, corporate requirements, and professional values to uphold. The company recognises the interaction between its activities and the environment and is committed to maintaining the highest environmental standards, aimed at pollution prevention and continuously improving environmental performance.

Accordingly, in conducting its business, Elecgas complies with environmental legislation and with other relevant environmental commitments. The environmental impact of all activities is evaluated as an integral part of the decision-making process, with the objective of preventing incidents that may adversely affect the environment and, at the same time, improving operational activities to reduce environmental impact.

Elecgas also promotes the efficient use of energy and material resources, as well as the responsible conservation and management of land.

Maintaining close relationships with regulatory authorities, environmental organisations, and the local community, as well as promoting environmental awareness among employees, suppliers, and contractors, are ongoing goals of Elecgas.

Environmental Certification

The continuous maintenance and improvement of both the Safety and Environmental Management Systems reinforce Elecgas and Pegop’s commitment to the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environment.

Health and Safety Certification

Safety First.

The Safety Management System of the Pego Power Generation Centre was initially developed in accordance with the British Standard BS 8800, and later aligned with the Portuguese Standard NP 4397 (2001), which was derived from the OHSAS 18001 specification.

In May 2021, the Safety Management System was approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) in compliance with the requirements of the ISO 45001:2018 standard.

The Safety Management System, together with other internal management systems, aims to ensure that every activity is clearly defined and documented, with responsibilities properly assigned to competent and adequately trained personnel.

The continuous maintenance and improvement of both the Safety and Environmental Management Systems reinforce Elecgas and Pegop’s commitment to the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environment.
